Recently, I had been pondering a lot about what the gap is between where you are in life, and where you want to be.

Are we not working hard enough? Are we not working smart enough? Are we focusing on the wrong areas of our life and business?

There must be a magic bean we missed somewhere, or maybe we should be eating more weetabix in the morning?

This can be a frustration for everyone, whether you’re an entrepreneur, or you’re trying to move your career forward, or even if you’re just not personally satisfied with where you are in life today.

Then one day it hit me like a eureka moment!

The solution seemed soo simple, yet so over-looked.

The difference between getting what you want, and what you have is not asking the question, so you should just ask!

What do you mean just ask?

As humans, we always tend to over complicate everything in our lives, and we refuse to believe that a solution could be as simple as asking a question.

Let me give you a few examples:

In business?

You may be focusing on the design of your brand, the decor of your office, the typography, the website, hiring new staff, painting the wall blue, because you believe, that is the reason your business isn’t working well enough right now, and one of these options will elevate your game and bring you new customers.

What you are always trying to ignore, is asking the question. You need more customers, in order to increase your revenue, however you don’t want to pick up that phone, and just ask your potential clients if they want to do business with you.

If you called 50 people a day, for the next 20 days, you would have got in touch with 1000 people, and even with a 1% closing rate, you would have got 10 new clients. Boom, problem solved, well depending on your ticket value. You would hope to have at least a 20% closing rate with a low ticket item.

Looking for a better career?

Let’s change the theme now, you are unemployed or you are not happy with the job you currently have. What do most of us do?

We keep applying for jobs online, get no response, and then say the job market is bad, no one is hiring ..

We don’t want to ask the Question. Find the places you want to work for, give them a call, sell yourself to them regardless of whether they have an opening or not, and get yourself that job.

Same principle applies, call 20 companies a day, eventually you will get that job that you want, and you’re not at the mercy of waiting for a response.

Single and looking for a date?

Final example here, you are single, and you want to be dating.

Most of us will hope to bump into that amazing loved one, by fate, and live happily ever after. Or sit back and swipe away online.

If you’re single, and want to be in a relationship, just like sales, you need to ask the question in order to get a response, your potential partner is not a mind reader.

It amazes me how we complain that we don’t have a relationship, and yet don’t ask anyone to date us.

The humble conclusion

The key conclusion is, life is what happens when you don’t ask the question, but you are in control of your life when you do, so go ahead, and ask away.
